Daily Loot #6 Sept. 9, 2021
Mintable AVIs of Loot bags, game frameworks, and a new idea for in-game currency.
Greetings adventurers!
Welcome to Daily Loot, a quick run-down of events in the world of Loot, the community-driven metaverse game.
Nigel’s colleague here. Lots happening, as usual. Let’s get into it.
LootCharacter
The talk of today was LootCharacter, the first mintable avi for OG Loot bags:
According to the intriguing LootCharacter FAQ, which doubles as a tiny manifesto, this is a new concept: an “associative NFT” that sticks to the Loot bag and can’t be independently transferred or sold.
Why design it this way?
We believe in the potential of decentralized IP. We think Loot's promise is more likely to be realized if value can snowball instead of fragment. Loot Character is one such investment in your Loot.
Each character costs 0.2 ETH to mint, with a portion of the funds going to one of eight DAOs linked to the guild that you choose when you mint.
Which guild should you choose? No idea!
There’s no time limit for minting these. Support for mLoot holders may be added down the line.
More projects building on Loot
New teaser for HyperLoot, which appears to be another visualization project:

We’re starting to move beyond NFT derivatives and see the beginnings of game frameworks that take some of the available Lego blocks and stack them in interesting ways. One is LootTogether, "a relatively simple game that can be deployed with existing and past Ethereum developments of no-loss lottery (PoolTogether), Rock / Paper / Scissors type game (CheezeWizards) with Loot and Character NFTs to create a skill and luck based game where there are only winners."
Dom laid out an idea for a new kind of in-game currency that would drip rewards to Loot holders.
CastleDAO is a new NFT derivative that says it offers “unique traits such as Defense, Gold Generation, Capacity, Unique Skill, Story and Design”
Governance update: the DAO of no-DAO
After a few days of contentious, often-frustrating debates on how to govern the Loot community, raise funds, and structure a DAO, if at all, Loot founder Dom Hofmann seems to have cut the gordian knot by proposing to burn the keys to the Loot contract once and for all. No DAO, then, now and forever. The community is supporting the proposal overwhelmingly in a Snapshot vote. If the keys are burned, Loot will never have a “head of state,” in the words of Reddit co-founder Alexis Ohanian:
What they’re saying about Loot
"In the beginning, there was nothing. The hyperverse was formless and empty, and darkness was over the surface of the deep..."
OpenSea allows counter-offers now:
